Horace Dediu, on the latest episode of the Critical Path, speaking on the app economy;
There’s an opportunity for a new type of business.
It takes less effort and less money to start a business today, than ever before. With apps, with devices, with the internet and with broadband, it allows people to connect talent (in this case, developers) with an audience.
You don’t need $100M. It turns out App developers don’t need that much capital. You don’t need that much capital to start a website or to start a web service. So the constraints on growth aren’t capital.
See also, Marco on the potential of the new app economy, minus the bat-crazy VC investment we’ve seen over the last few years. It really is possible to create a one-man-band that can change some small part of the world. Real, ‘ding in the universe’ stuff. There’s never before been such a great time to start a business, or to build an app, or to write a book and sell it, or to take your message to the audience.
Now’s the right time, better get cracking.
